Digestate, A
Natural Fertiliser
The nutrient rich byproduct of biomethane production — clean, safe, and useful.
What is Digestate?
Digestate is the nutrient-rich material that remains after organic feedstocks like slurry, grass silage, or food waste are processed in an anaerobic digestion (AD) plant.
While the biogas is captured and upgraded into biomethane, the leftover digestate still contains valuable nutrients including nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium that are essential for healthy crop growth.
Benefits of Digestate
An eco-friendly fertiliser that supports both crops and climate.
Nutrient Value
Digestate contains key nutrients
like nitrogen, phosphorus and
potassium, making it a natural
alternative to synthetic fertilisers.
Soil Health
Regular use of digestate
enhances soil structure, supports
microbial life, and increases
long-term fertility.
Emissions Reduction
Applying digestate can reduce
methane and ammonia
emissions compared to
untreated manure.
Safety Standards
Digestate is subject to EU and
Irish quality standards. Many
systems include pasteurisation
to ensure it’s hygienic and safe to
apply to land.
Flexible Use
Digestate is available in liquid or
solid form, and can be stored,
pumped, or transported
depending on farm size and
equipment.
